Act On CO2

The environment and CO2 are a major talking point; the media has at last got itself involved in a real issue that could ultimately lead to the tipping point where the human race is no longer in control of its' environment.

CO2 emmissions are sourced from a huge variety of place, many of which individuals do not have any direct control over. However, there are instances where people can have direct control, and their vehicles are one of them. Selecting lower emission CO2 vehicles may seem like a small step in stopping the planet from reaching the tipping point, but it is small steps that create the long journey that is required in the mindset of the industrialised world.

There are now a number of initiatives being started by small local communities to local governments to try to tackle climate change at its root. We encourage everybody to make a change to the way they conduct their lives, no matter how small, so that the combined impatct will reduce CO2 emissions significantly enough to make a difference.

The government is currently running an advertising campaign (under the strapline "Act On CO2") to advise us that by accelerating more gently, reducing our engine revs, and by keeping our tyres inflated to their correct pressure, we can all make a small reduction in our CO2 emissions from our vehicles; a small step, but one which could be the first of many.

One of the hardest things to combat is the 'what difference can I make' attitude, which is entirely understandable. The hope will be that these small effects will lead to changes we can see, and then the age-old snowball effect will kick in.

To those that say that there is no proof that climate change is as a result of human impact and that it's a natural universal cycle, you should ask yourself how you would feel if in 50 years time the tipping point is reached and it's too late, and proof were found that it was as a result of human activity on th planet. The phrase "it's better to be safe than sorry" could never be more apt.
